GOSH! OUR TEACHER IS BED-WETTING!!! 😃😃

I am sure these are the words on the lips of the students in my school at the moment. I thought to share this amazing experience with you.


My life has taken a total turnaround ever since I started the bed-wetting advocacy journey in 2021. I have shared my story both with the young and the old.

Streets, parks, religious places, and schools have all been my places of contact with people. I have gone from schools to schools to talk to and educate students of different age groups on the topic of ENURESIS (Bed-wetting), using my own bed-wetting story as a connecting tool.

For some time now, I have been looking forward to a time I could address the whole population of my workplace, especially the students, in order to enlighten them on the condition. But that time has still not come. However, something amazing has been going on for about two weeks now....😃😃

Somehow, the students got to know about my bed-wetting story, and a whole lot of drama has been going on among them ever since. And, being a boarding school, and with a large population of students, the news has spread like wildfire.

To say the students have been curious would be an understatement. Their facial expression and body language say it all. They have been acting strange and weird. I know their hearts are filled with many questions. But that is not much of a problem because, being a technology school, where students use their laptops for learning, they have had the privilege to look up my name on the internet, and that has led them to different highlights of my bed-wetting story.

The funny thing is that, I don't think most of them have a full/complete grasp of the story. All they know is, “Oh, our teacher is bed-wetting.” They do not know the end of the story. 😃

Besides, some of them do not even know the reason behind the story. They are ignorant of the great need to start such advocacy.

At first, I didn’t know what was going on. I only noticed that each time I entered any class, the students would start to laugh mockingly... 😄 This happened in almost all the classes (Year 7 - 12).

And, to be honest, I was genuinely confused at first. I did not understand. I was lost, not until one day, I was in a class teaching, and a girl who was passing by, stopped, and said, “Miss Tolu, a particular news has been spreading round the school. But, let me just ask, have you been in the news before?”

That was when the whole thing clicked in my head, and with a beautiful smile on my face, I answered her, “Yes, my dear. I have been in the news before for something very important. And, as much as I would have loved to open that discussion now, this is closing period, so, I will not want to delay you further, but I will definitely look at how we can plan a meeting to talk about it.”

Here is the IRONY: For the children, some of them really think they are ridiculing me, 😃and some of them just find the story very funny and weird, but for me, I see a new level of fame; another opportunity to spread the balm of peace and emotional comfort.

They may not know, but I was sent here for this mission! I am on earth for this, and from onset, I have prepared my mind to take any bullets that may come in the form of mockery. But, beyond that, the bigger plan is to educate the society to the point where they have an empathetic view of the condition and support those who have the condition.

I look forward to addressing the whole school population on this topic which is of great interest to me. If that happens, it would be a massive achievement!

When I was writing my book on bedwetting, I wasn't planning to make my story a secret. When I was sharing it with the BBC and I was put on Channels TV, I was enthusiastically sharing with the whole world. The desire is to go global with the story.

No fear. No shame. No holding back!

The Fear of Vulnerability

Consider the snail. Each time you touch its foot, mouth or tentacles, it withdraws into its shell. In fact, most times, we use that to determine its status, whether dead or alive. So  your ability to react to pains or withdraw from it is a sign that you are a perfect living soul. Don't make the mistake of thinking something is wrong with you or you are emotionally weak. Patience in Words

The tongue is powerful than any other organ of the body. It saves and it kills depending on how you have learnt to control it.  Sometimes we say things that we don't mean in a mean way and usually, what we say is weightier and more destructive than what we do. Words are powerful than actions.  Actions may be forgotten easily but when words make a negative and indelible mark on someone's reputation, it is usually difficult to forget.  Meanwhile, we sometimes end up becoming sorry, feeling sad, guilty, and troubled for the wrong things we have said.
