Controlling your Anxiety

Sharon had been anxiously waiting for his uncle who promised to take her abroad once he comes home.  She had boastfully told almost everyone around her that she would be leaving Nigeria. Unfortunately, Sharon's uncle came home with load of excuses as to why he would not be able to take her anymore and that was the beginning of Sharon's depression...

Many are the heartaches we give ourselves due to our inability to control our anxiety. To be anxious for success is a good thing but excess of everything is apparently bad. Extreme and uncontrolled anxiety for success may be very destructive to our mental health.

It is beautiful to be positively expectant but it is also good to always leave a gap for failure because the unexpected can happen and as a matter of fact, nothing seems to be stable in life.

A sweet relationship today can turn sour tomorrow. That lucrative job you're seeing today may not remain so in subsequent years and the long awaited admission may either come late or not come at all. So, you have to be ready for all possibilities.

Anxiety raises our expectations and we must learn to control both. When we become too anxious about life, our expectations become very high which means once something turns out unsuccessful, our heart becomes shattered and troubled.

The extent of our expectation is usually the extent of our disappointment. That is, the higher your expectations, the more disappointed you would feel when things turn out negative. Be patient about life's pursuit.

Patience is that virtue that helps you take a pause between a feeling and an action. Being too forward is not an attribute of patience.

When you fail, it is not a time to wail or blame someone for your failure. It is a time to think things through so that you can see your mistakes if there is any and then work on how to avoid such in your subsequent trials. It is a time to draw a new plan, take well thought actions and wait patiently again for your breakthrough.

When you are expecting the fulfilment of a promise, it is not time to unzip your lips and let the talk fill the town. Take it easy and be patient. Your success will advertise itself.

When you are in a frustrating conversation with people, it is not time to loose your mouth and utter destructive words. The Bible says in James 1:19 "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:"

It is high time you applied the principle of patience in everything you do.
