Quietness of Mind — Part One

Are you fond of worrying and complaining about your situation?

Do you beat yourself for the mistakes you've made and the guilt of what you didn't do right is hunting you?

Are you prone to uttering unpleasant words during a misunderstanding?

If yes, close your eyes, take all the worries off your mind and smile.

This piece is for you. Kindly read on.

John 14:27 (ICB) says “I leave you peace. My peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don’t let your hearts be troubled. Don’t be afraid.

"So don't let your hearts be troubled".

One beautiful virtue a peaceful individual should possess is quietness of mind because it's a good way to stay out of trouble either within or without. Whether you are dealing with some personal challenges or you have issues getting along with someone, one thing you shouldn't lose is the tranquility of your mind. As a matter of fact, when your mind is in order, your words will be in order.

As rational beings, our lives are full of great desires and expectations. We set amazing goals, look forward to a beautiful future and expect that things should work out for us in a certain way without failure or obstacles. But the moment these things don't work out well or work out the way we want, our heart becomes fussy with rage, agitations and miseries.

We tend to quickly forget how far we've come and the beautiful memories of things that have worked for us in the past. All we do is worry about the downfalls we suffer. This is the reason many people go to the extent of committing suicide. When life happens, we should learn to put our mind in order.

Quietness of the mind is also needed in the area of decision making. A mind full of chaos is either very indecisive or is always making a wrong decision because it is highly disorganized and ruffled. What you do with peace comes out great but what you do with anxiety gets messy. Calm your mind and think straight.

If only we can maintain a level of calmness, then our current unpleasant situations and the ones to come will not have a grip on us.

There is no point worrying or complaining about the things you cannot control. And even when you have the privilege to change or correct some things, rising up to action will be the best step, not worry. Worrying only weakens the mind and propels dangerous decisions.
